Hill Country Photography Exhibit Opens at The Hive

WORK by VAN REDIN : A RETROSPECTIVE

Please join us at The Hive in Bee Cave for the opening exhibition of work by renowned photographer Van Redin brought to us by The Lake Travis Film Festival on January 17th from 6-8pm. Redin has shot Publicity Stills for over 75 major feature films including Lord of the Rings, Rudy, Office Space, Rushmore, All the Pretty Horses as well as TV series and many Rock n Roll Stars!

Alongside will be work by the Dripping Springs Photography group and the talented photography students of Lake Travis High School and The Regents School of Austin Photography Club. Enjoy live demonstrations, music and an opportunity to visit with the artists. The Hive is located in the Hill Country Galleria, across the street from Barnes & Noble.

ART WALK WEATHER UPDATE: Due to potential rainy weather conditions, we regret to inform everyone that the Friday night concert under the stars featuring the Christian Wiggs Sextet and the outdoor Saturday Art Walk at the Hurst Creek Sculpture Garden and Hamilton Greenbelt have been cancelled. However, the weekend doesn’t end there! The Studio Tours and off-site exhibitions will still be happening as planned on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm, offering you a chance to explore the creativity of local artists in their studios. Additionally, on Sunday at the Lakeway Activity Center, you can enjoy a free TexARTS Emerging Professionals and Young Student performance at 2pm, plus the Christian Wiggs Sextet will conclude the weekend festivities with a live music concert on Sunday at 6pm. We look forward to seeing you there! REVISED ART WALK SCHEDULE: FRIDAY, APRIL 19 – KICKOFF PARTY at 5pm Immerse yourself in a vibrant celebration of the arts in Lakeway! This special three-day event kicks off on Friday 4/19 at 5pm with refreshments and light bites at a festive artist meet-and-greet hosted by the Adams Galleries. SATURDAY, APRIL 20 & SUNDAY, APRIL 21 – STUDIO TOURS from 10am-4pm Discover local creative gems as you explore the vibrant Studio Tour (see interactive map) featuring 20 open artist studios and off-site exhibitions both Saturday and Sunday. Also on Saturday, the Lakeway Heritage Center is showcasing an Art of Quilting exhibit from 1pm-4pm along with sharing Lakeway’s fascinating history. The Lake Travis Community Library is hosting a special student art exhibit as part of the Studio Tour as well. Talented young artists from Lake Travis High School will be showcasing their creations inspired by the unique spirit of Lakeway. Join the student reception from 2pm to 4pm to meet the artists, celebrate their creativity, and discover a fresh perspective on your own community. SUNDAY, APRIL 21 – TEXARTS PERFORMANCE at 2pm and CHRISTIAN WIGGS SEXTET at 6pm On Sunday, wrap up your art-filled adventure by visiting additional open studios and treat yourself to two captivating performances! Enjoy a special free TexARTS Emerging Professionals and Young Students performance at 2pm at the Lakeway Activity Center. Finally, conclude an inspiring weekend with a free live music performance by the Christian Wiggs Sextet at 6pm at the Lakeway Activity Center. The Lakeway Heritage Center will be open on Saturday, April 20th, from 1pm to 4pm to showcase their exhibit on the Art of Quilting. Members of the Heritage Committee will be sharing the history and process of quilting in addition to the history of Lakeway. About the Art of Quilting Quilting, often thought of as a cozy craft, boasts a rich history that stretches far beyond bedspreads. For centuries, skilled artisans have been transforming fabric scraps into stunning works of art and treasured heirlooms. Early quilts served a practical purpose, providing warmth and insulation. Over time, intricate patterns and designs emerged, showcasing the artistic talents of the quilters. These quilts reflected not only the maker’s skill but also the cultural influences and stories of their communities.

Lake Travis High School students showcase their artistic vision of Lakeway’s cultural treasures in this month’s exhibit. The Lake Travis Student Art Exhibition: “Voices of Lakeway” showcases the creativity and artistic skill of student artists. The exhibition is a selection of works produced by student artists during the 2023-2024 school year. Throughout the school year, some of these students have been asked to create work responding to a prompt of self reflection, some created their works with the purpose of participating in a scholastic art competition, and others created works outside of their school classrooms. Experience Lakeway through the students’ eyes at their exhibition throughout April. Meet the student artists at the reception on Saturday, April 20th, 2-4 pm at the Lake Travis Community Library.

Music reflects the eras of our lives so beautifully. Come enjoy the songs of your life and the memories they bring in SingAlong’s 23rd annual Spring Show, “That’s Life”, at the Lakeway Activity Center on April 19th and 20th (Friday and Saturday nights). Tickets go on sale March 12 for Activity Center members and March 19 to the public. Doors open for these dinner show performances at 6 PM, dinner served at 6:30, with the show following. BYOB, of course, and tables of 8 and 10 available. Tickets are $45 are on sale now at the Lakeway Activity Center. Tickets are also available on line at http://www.lakeway-tx.gov/activity-catalog. These shows sell out quickly, so get your tickets early! Call the Lakeway Activity Center (512-261-1010) for more information. About “That’s Life!“ Certainly we’ve all been through it: You’ve finished school; next, find a job. Could be a great start, but maybe later you find something you want to do. Look for a partner to enjoy it all and grow old with – hopefully that works out. Probably have a family, a home. Friends, for sure. Activities and hobbies. Success? Sometimes, but oh – the ups and downs of it all. The song says, “You’re riding high in April, shot down in May.” “That’s Life”, sings Frank Sinatra, and you know he’s nailed it. Show co-producer Ann Smith sums up the program: “Music reflects the eras of our lives so beautifully – from youthful enthusiasm and naiveté, through career opportunities, leisure activities, even retirement lifestyles. Come enjoy the songs of your life and the memories they bring.” About SingAlong SingAlong is a collection of 70-some area music lovers that has been performing for local audiences since 1999. As always, there will be some fun numbers, exotic costumes and the very talented SingAlong Show Band. For newcomers to the area, SingAlong does all the singing, but audiences are always welcome to join in.
