Local Artists and Live Music at the Cool Arts Show & Studio Tour

The Lakeway Arts Committee is hosting its annual Cool Arts Show & Studio Tour on Saturday, August 24th from 1pm to 5pm at the Lakeway Activity Center (105 Cross Creek). Enjoy live music by Bethany Becker while browsing beautiful artwork from many local artists. There will be paintings, jewelry, pottery, and even fun children’s activities like face painting and art projects.

About Musician Bethany Becker

Bethany Becker is a country pop/rock artist and film star from Austin, TX. In 2018, Bethany released a self-titled, full length album with assistance from Grammy Award Winner Liz Rose (Taylor Swift). Bethany’s debut record landed multiple nominations for the Hollywood Music and Media Awards and a variety of other competitions. Bethany just release her independently written follow-up EP “If the Boot Fits” on July 20th, performing to a packed house at Quack’s Soundspace.

9:15 am Ladies of the Lake Quilt Bee

Ladies of the Lake Quilt Bee, which organized in Lakeway in 1997, is a subgroup of the Austin Area Quilt Guild. Activities involve various quilt-related projects. Individuals may work on their own projects, quilt or sew for a charity, share ideas, teach and encourage others in the art. LOLQB contributes to the ongoing service projects of the Austin Quilt Guild by making quilts for wounded soldiers and veterans. They donate quilts and other supplies to four Austin area agencies for abused and underprivileged children. Locally, they have contributed to the Lake Travis Community Library, the Thrift Shop of Lakeway and the Lakeway Heritage Committee (Liebelt cabin.) Occasional field trips round out their events. They meet on Wednesday’s from 9:15am – 12:15pm at the Lakeway Activity Center. Membership of the Lakeway Activity Center is required.

Many years ago, after an inspiring watercolor class by Johnnie Fields, a well-known Lakeway artist, a group of his students enthusiastically established The Lakeway Painters which continues to grow and thrive today. Each Wednesday, The Lakeway Painters’ club gets together to paint in a supportive environment and have a friendly critique of their members’ art. Bring your artwork and supplies and meet others who like to express creatively with watercolors, acrylics, collages and more. The Lakeway Painters meet every Wednesday from 9:45 am-12:15 pm. LTCL Sound Bath Meditation

Join us for a relaxing Sound Bath meditative experience in which musical instruments like singing bowls are used to relax, realign and re-energize the body and mind. Participants gather around these musical instruments while the instructor guides her students into a deep, calming state. The term “bath” is used because participants are bathing in the sound as well as the vibrations the sound waves put off. These vibrations are incredibly calming as well, with the goal being to help stimulate your body into restoration as well as clearing out any negative emotions or energies that serve you no purpose. Please bring a mat and any other items you might need to feel comfortable such as a pillow, blanket, or eye mask.

The Austin Area Quilt Guild (AAQG) has hosted a Quilt Show every other year since 1980. This year, at Palmer Event Center, the juried Quiltfest will be on Friday September 27th and Saturday September 28th at 10am – 6pm and on Sunday, September 29th from 12-5pm. over 400 traditional pieced, applique, hand and machine made, modern and art quilts can be viewed. Demonstrations and Over 50 vendors of quilts and quilting supplies will be available each day. About AAQG AAQG, founded in 1978 is dedicated to preserving the heritage of quilting and promoting excellence and education in the art of quilt making. A 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, the guild meets the first Monday of every month at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Members and guests present their recent work. Retreats, Workshops, and Sew In’s along with area Bee Groups provide man other venues for activities. The guild supports various charity efforts that provide small quilts for babies and toddlers, at several organizations in Austin as well as “Red White” and Blue lap quilts for the Bun Center at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. POLICE DEPARTMENT OPEN HOUSE: There will be an Open House at the Lakeway Police Department that evening from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. The event will give the public a chance to meet different police department divisions, receive crime prevention material and take a tour of the facility. The tour will allow individuals the chance to check out the shooting simulator and take a test with the drunk goggles. There will also be a variety of handouts for children, including stickers, coloring books and wristbands. Whether you have a neighborhood gathering to attend that evening, or don’t have one, stop by the Lakeway Police Department that afternoon to see the police facility and visit with different officers. NEIGHBORHOOD GATHERINGS National Night Out (NNO) is an annual event designed to strengthen our community by encouraging citizen engagement with their neighbors and with the police. NNO heightens crime-prevention awareness, builds support and participation in local anti-crime programs, and most importantly, sends a message that our neighborhoods are organized and taking a stand against crime. It’s also the perfect opportunity to get to know your neighbors and enjoy an evening among friends. NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight to keep our city safe. Each year, our officers, police staff and city leaders visit dozens of neighborhood parties throughout the community. We always enjoy meeting our residents, sharing important safety advice, and trying some of the great food and treats! Thank you for everyone who chooses to participate in this important event
