Take an Artistic Journey to the Gulf Coast

    July 31, 2025 /

Local artist Larry Bishop, a Lakeway resident, brings the beauty of the coast to the Lakeway City Hall Art Gallery this August. Inspired by summers spent on Florida’s Gulf Coast, Bishop’s paintings capture the natural beauty and vibrant marine life of the Texas, Mississippi, and Florida coastlines. After decades as a golf pro and then a realtor, Bishop returned to painting in 2018. Now, he’s happiest with a paintbrush in hand, drawing inspiration from his coastal travels and the time he spends on his boat in Rockport. His stunning collection, which includes both acrylics and pastels, has earned recognition from the Pastel Society of Colorado and is also represented by…

Contracommon’s Common Ground Art Fest @ Hill Country Galleria Central Plaza
Contracommon’s Common Ground Art Fest is a full day event celebrating local arts and community—featuring 35+ creative vendors, 4 live music acts, and hands-on activities for all ages. The festival will take place on September 27th, from 12pm to 6pm, on the Hill Country Galleria’s central plaza. This festival directly supports the emerging artists and makers of Central Texas by connecting them with a huge community of art lovers throughout west Austin and the Hill Country. For the past four years, Contracommon has hosted the Summer Arts Festival in the Hill Country Galleria, where their headquarters is also located. “From summer to something new,” the organization says on the change, “We’ve loved every minute of the Summer Arts Fest—four years of sunshine, art, and community magic. Now, we’re packing up those good memories and pitching our tent under a new name: Common Ground Art Fest. Think of it as your favorite summer camp reunion”. Contracommon empowers underrepresented artists in Central Texas through community, collaboration, and creative exploration. Contracommon is an artist-run nonprofit arts space that focuses on supporting emerging artists’ professional development in a collaborative setting. Through a partnership with the Hill Country Galleria, Contracommon operates an experimental gallery space in Bee Cave, providing affordable workspace to emerging artists and access to facilities to support artists’ practices. Resident studio members volunteer their time and expertise to work alongside staff in creating exhibits, workshops and events that connect individual artists to their community and promote artists’ small businesses. The Common Ground Art Fest, hosted by Contracommon, will take place on Saturday, September 27th, 2025 from 12pm – 6pm at the Hill Country Galleria Central Plaza (located at 12700 Hill Country Blvd Bee Cave, TX 78738).
