Empowering the ATX Community with Meaningful Public Art

Decades of artistic evolution on the streets of Austin, Texas have culminated in ATX Urban Art, a first-of-its-kind exhibition and book showcasing the city’s graffiti, street art, murals, and mosaics from the 1950s to today. It shines a spotlight on Austin artists at a time when the rapid growth of our city makes the preservation of the works from early pioneers and those carrying the torch today so important.

J Muzacz, well known mural artist and author of ATX Urban Art, has brought together 34 street artists featured in his 700 page book documenting the history of street art in Austin.  150 works of art by these artists are currently on exhibit at the Bee Cave Arts Foundation from August 26 – September  22, 2023. At 7pm, curator J Muzacz will lead a tour of the exhibition, introduce the artists and take questions.  His book, ATX Urban Art, will be available for purchase along with personalized signing by many of the artists.

Featured artists include ANGRY CLOUD, Riktor,  B~kay, Bill Tavis, DaddyOtis, Candy Kuo, Cindy Tobar, Griffin, Ed Booth, ER, Ernesto Hernandez, Ethan Azarian, Fabián Rey, Goodluck Buddha, Hope Hummingbird, J Muzacz, James Talbot, Eye Dr., LACED AND FOUND, Liza Fishbone, Remote One, iloveu, Niz, FeeBee, Rabbit Snake, Ruly, Carmen Rangel, Samara Barks/Mixed Hues, SLEEP IS FAMOUS, Tara Leigh Johnston, The Impossible Winterbourne, FISH, Bradlio 1 and Britt.

About the ATX URBAN ART book:

All four chapters will educate and inspire even the casual reader. Austin residents and visitors alike can gain a deeper understanding of the city as well as the visual artists and vandals behind the ever-evolving tapestry of urban art in our streets. The four chapters: Graffiti, Street Art, Murals, and Mosaics, will each include an introduction to the artform, some historical notes, insights into the various styles, explanations of the vernacular, and most importantly, dozens and dozens of spreads for our featured artists.

Their work is showcased in over 2000 images throughout ATX Urban Art, with many professionally photographed for this book and others sourced from never-before-seen artist archives. The photos nearly pop off the page thanks to the bright, eco-friendly soy ink printed on black pages, and the heavy FSC-certified paper reflects the significance this book holds for so many artists, Austinites, and more.

Brought to you by the artist and author J Muzacz and his tight-knit team of dedicated photographers and designers: Justin Ebel, Zoe Axelrod, and Tony Moreno, alongside dozens of valuable contributions from participating artists, photographers, and documentarians, ATX Urban Art promises to be the most definitive urban art book of our city for years to come.
