Contracommon presents Out of Body, an exhibition exploring the human figure through abstracted, cerebral, and fantastical lenses. Featuring 13 emerging Central Texas artists, the show delves into themes of transformation, introspection, and the very essence of embodied experience.
Inspired by Contracommon’s history of member-led figure drawing and the 2024 exhibition Bodies Akin, Out of Body showcases alternative representations of the body, pushing beyond traditional forms. Artists like Madeline Hernandez and Jessamyn Plotts challenge perceptions of self and physicality, examining the body as a site of constant flux and profound personal exploration.
Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, March 22nd, from 4-7 PM, free and open to the public. Out of Body will be on view from March 20th to April 17th, 2025, in the Contracommon gallery, open Friday through Sunday, 12-6 PM. Private viewings are available Monday-Thursday by appointment.
