Spicewood Live – Band of Heathens

Band of Heathens may have started by “accident” when three Austin singer-songwriters began sharing a stage at the now-closed Momo’s, but over the years the band has grown into a full-on Southern rock band with a social conscience. Nowhere is this more strongly felt than in their latest release, Stranger, released in 2020.

As band lineup changes found various members living in California, Texas, North Carolina, and Tennessee, the shutdown provided a challenge which the band met by live-streaming personal private concerts and publicly live-streaming with the whole band from their respective homes.

“At first it seemed very strange until these walls started coming down and we realized how connected we are by the fabric of music,” said Gordy Quist, one of the co-founders, along with Ed Jurdi.

They traveled to still another city, Portland, with a new producer, Tucker Martine (Avett Brothers, Modest Mouse), and recorded Stranger, whose sound keeps their perceptive songwriting and adds rich instrumentation. Rolling Stone called it “a warm, enveloping album with a positive message of understanding and compassion that’s just right for the times — call it “comfort rock.”

By the time they get here in April, Band of Heathens is sure to have something more to say. Get your tickets early for this one.
