Steel Magnolias will Steal Your Heart
Before it was a movie, this pop culture favorite was an off-Broadway hit. With sharp, witty banter and memorable one-liners, six women from all walks of life celebrate the everyday joys and tears of small-town living while gathered at their favorite hair salon. When tragedy strikes, the play reveals the steely bonds of compassion and love that hold true friends together. The Lakeway Players present Steel Magnolias at the Lakeway Activity Center on May 11, 12, and 13th. Performances are at 7pm and doors open at 6:30pm. BYOB with setups provided. Tickets are $25 and available online or at the Lakeway Activity Center.
About Steel Magnolias:
Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done, is Louisiana’s go-to place for a beauty fix with a hearty side of gossip. With her overeager, new assistant, Annelle – currently experiencing problems in her marriage – the two ladies dispense shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeons including moody Ouiser, an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee who has a raging sweet tooth, and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby – the prettiest girl in town – is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Steel Magnolias is a story of hilarious repartee, acerbic yet humorously revealing verbal collisions, and the sudden realization of mortality within an all too perfect beauty salon. Strength and love make this play, and its characters, truly touching, funny, and marvelously amiable company in both good times and bad.
