Travel the World in Watercolors
This month at the Lake Travis Community Library, don’t miss the travel inspired watercolor paintings of local artist Ben Kuenemann. Ben was born in El Paso and grew up in Houston. He attended San Jacinto High School and is a proud member of the dwindling “Band of Brothers” Class of 1954, former San Jacinto football players. He went on to attend UT, graduating with a degree in Engineering in 1959.
Ben and his wife of 62 years, Sylvia, retired to their dream home in Lakeway in 1996. Prior to that, he worked for over thirty years managing computer technology in Houston. His career culminated with nine years as the Senior Managing Director of Technology at Bear Stearns in New York City.
In retirement, Ben picked up oil painting after his wife encouraged him to take classes. He switched to watercolor in 2001 and has made painting a regular part of his life since 2006.
The majority of Ben’s work focuses on architectural subjects inspired by his love of travel. He depicts recognizable scenes such as London’s Big Ben, the canals of Venice, and the Charles Bridge over the Vistula River in Prague. Ben has generously offered to auction off the painting St. Mark’s Square to the highest bidder with the proceeds going to benefit the library.
Ben will be available for sales inquiries and discussion of his work at his reception on Saturday, August 6th from 2pm to 3:30pm. All are invited to visit the library’s meeting room to view the colorful and travel inspired artwork of Ben Kuenemann!
