Larry Bishop
Larry Bishop credits his father for introducing him to art at a very young age. Growing up in New Orleans, Bishop was exposed to its many art galleries and rich cultural heritage. Summer vacations on Florida’s Gulf Coast were the start of Bishop’s love of coastal communities, marine life and fishing.
Larry studied art in high school, during which his painting, “Beach Scene” was awarded Honorable Mention in a city-wide art competition. He went on to major in Fine Arts at the University of Southwest Louisiana. During the years since college, Larry took an unintentional, four- decade- long hiatus from painting. He and his wife Pam were busy working and raising their family in Lakeway near Austin, Texas. Then, in 2018, on a visit to New Orleans, Larry was struck by a particular painting in a French Quarter gallery. The painting, by French artist Denis Lebecq, was so inspiring and motivating that he bought it, went home and started painting again.
Much of his current work is inspired by the coastal settings he frequents: the Gulf Coast of Texas Mississippi and Florida. Most recently, he keeps his boat in Rockport, Texas. After 20 years as a golf pro, and another 20 years as a realtor, these days Larry is happiest with either a fishing pole, golf club or paintbrush in his hand. Larry has work in Adams Gallery in Austin , Latitude 28.02 and Salt Flats Gallery in Rockport Texas.
