Lakeway Arts + Culture Calendar

Join us at the Lake Travis Community Library for some great bluegrass style live music with the Eddie Collins and Max Zimmet Duo. Eddie and Max team up on acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, and vocals, playing bluegrass, country, rockabilly, and western swing standards and originals. The Austin-based duo of Eddie Collins and Max Zimmet is a side project of the popular Hot Pickin 57s. They team up on acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, and vocals, playing standards and originals in the genres of bluegrass, classic country (Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, etc), Rockabilly (Chuck Berry, Ricky Nelson, Johnny Rivers, etc.) and Texas Swing.

Artist Penny Jamrack will display her watercolor and acrylic paintings during the month of November at the Lake Travis Community Library. Originally from England, Penny moved to Texas in 1977. Her art is inspired by her travels and influenced by the natural beauty of plants, birds, and animals. All are invited to Penny’s art reception on Saturday, November 2nd from 2pm to 4pm and art demonstration on Tuesday, November 19th at 10:30am. See you then!

Ladies of the Lake Quilt Bee, which organized in Lakeway in 1997, is a subgroup of the Austin Area Quilt Guild. Activities involve various quilt-related projects. Individuals may work on their own projects, quilt or sew for a charity, share ideas, teach and encourage others in the art. LOLQB contributes to the ongoing service projects of the Austin Quilt Guild by making quilts for wounded soldiers and veterans. They donate quilts and other supplies to four Austin area agencies for abused and underprivileged children. Locally, they have contributed to the Lake Travis Community Library, the Thrift Shop of Lakeway and the Lakeway Heritage Committee (Liebelt cabin.)  Occasional field trips round out their events. They meet on Wednesday’s from 9:15am – 12:15pm at the Lakeway Activity Center. Membership of the Lakeway Activity Center is required.

Many years ago, after an inspiring watercolor class by Johnnie Fields, a well-known Lakeway artist, a group of his students enthusiastically established The Lakeway Painters which continues to grow and thrive today. Each Wednesday, The Lakeway Painters’ club gets together to paint in a supportive environment and have a friendly critique of their members’ art. Bring your artwork and supplies and meet others who like to express creatively with watercolors, acrylics, collages and more. The Lakeway Painters meet every Wednesday from 9:45 am-12:15 pm. Lakeway Activity Center membership is required to participate.  Membership information: Contact Ben Kuenemann at 512-261-8720 or email benkue37@gmail.com. 

All are invited to play American Mahjong at the Lake Travis Community Library on Monday afternoons. Please bring cards and sets if you have them and join in the fun! This is a free play, open session without a dedicated instructor.  New to American Mahjong? Learn the basics in Mahjong 101. It is commonly played by four players. The game and its regional variants are widely played throughout Eastern and Southeastern Asia and have become popular in America and other Western countries too. The game has also been adapted into popular online entertainment. Similar to the Western card game rummy, Mahjong is a game of skill, strategy, and calculation with a degree of chance. Every 3rd Tuesday of the month, you are invited to knit and crochet together at the Lake Travis Community Library (or via Zoom)! All experience levels are welcome to bring their own knitting project to receive tips and guidance from club members.
