Bee Cave is Swarming with New Outdoor Art

The Bees of Bee Cave is an outdoor public art project presented by The Bee Cave Arts Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with the mission to improve the quality of life in our community and enhance the experience of visitors by bringing awareness, education and integration of a wide range of art throughout public spaces.

Each large scale Bee Sculpture was designed by local artists/artist groups to reflect their creative freedom and visually engage the community and visitors of Bee Cave, Texas.

How to Visit The Bees of Bee Cave:

The Bees are on display now at the Hill Country Galleria and will be featured in this year’s Austin Studio Tour (November 14-22), along with the Bee Cave Sculpture Park. The tour will be displaying Virtual Exhibitions, Online Programs, and city-wide Art Outdoors like ours that can be safely viewed by self-guided walking or drive-by tours.

All are invited to play American Mahjong at the Lake Travis Community Library on Monday afternoons. Please bring cards and sets if you have them and join in the fun! This is a free play, open session without a dedicated instructor. New to American Mahjong? Learn the basics in Mahjong 101. About Mahjong: Mahjong (mah-JONG) is a tile-based game that was developed in China during the Qing dynasty that has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. It is commonly played by four players. The game and its regional variants are widely played throughout Eastern and Southeastern Asia and have become popular in America and other Western countries too. The game has also been adapted into popular online entertainment. Similar to the Western card game rummy, Mahjong is a game of skill, strategy, and calculation with a degree of chance. Ladies of the Lake Quilt Bee, which organized in Lakeway in 1997, is a subgroup of the Austin Area Quilt Guild. Activities involve various quilt-related projects. Individuals may work on their own projects, quilt or sew for a charity, share ideas, teach and encourage others in the art. LOLQB contributes to the ongoing service projects of the Austin Quilt Guild by making quilts for wounded soldiers and veterans. They donate quilts and other supplies to four Austin area agencies for abused and underprivileged children. Locally, they have contributed to the Lake Travis Community Library, the Thrift Shop of Lakeway and the Lakeway Heritage Committee (Liebelt cabin.) Occasional field trips round out their events. They meet on Wednesday’s from 9:15am – 12:15pm at the Lakeway Activity Center. Membership of the Lakeway Activity Center is required.

Many years ago, after an inspiring watercolor class by Johnnie Fields, a well-known Lakeway artist, a group of his students enthusiastically established The Lakeway Painters which continues to grow and thrive today. Each Wednesday, The Lakeway Painters’ club gets together to paint in a supportive environment and have a friendly critique of their members’ art. Bring your artwork and supplies and meet others who like to express creatively with watercolors, acrylics, collages and more. The Lakeway Painters meet every Wednesday from 9:45 am-12:15 pm. The Hillsiders Friday, November 15th, 2024 Doors open @ 6:00 p.m. Performance starts at 7:00 p.m. $45 per ticket The Hillsiders are a lively bluegrass band based in Austin, Texas. They formed out of a shared passion for the rich traditions of bluegrass and old-time music. The band consists of four talented musicians: Andi Jo (fiddle/vocals), Devon Canady (guitar/vocals), Hunter Hollingsworth (mandolin/vocals), and Dom Fisher (upright bass/vocals), who is also a Grammy-nominated artist. The Hillsiders blend old-time and bluegrass influences, drawing inspiration from legends like Ralph Stanley, Doc Watson, and Larry Sparks. Their music is characterized by sweet melodies and hard-driving breakdowns, which they deliver with both reverence for tradition and a unique personal stamp. Since coming together, they’ve become a fixture in Austin’s music scene, playing at various venues and festivals across Texas. Artist Penny Jamrack will display her watercolor and acrylic paintings during the month of November at the Lake Travis Community Library. Originally from England, Penny moved to Texas in 1977. Her art is inspired by her travels and influenced by the natural beauty of plants, birds, and animals. All are invited to Penny’s art reception on Saturday, November 2nd from 2pm to 4pm and art demonstration on Tuesday, November 19th at 10:30am. See you then!
