Local Artists selected for The Bees of Bee Cave

Congratulations to the talented local artists chosen to represent their work for The Bees of Bee Cave outdoor sculptures.

The Bees of Bee Cave is an outdoor public art project sponsored by the Bee Cave Arts Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with the mission to improve the quality of life in our community and enhance the experience of visitors by bringing awareness, education and integration of a wide range of art throughout public spaces. This project showcases 10 unadorned cement bee sculptures that are 4 ft tall and 3 ft wide that are painted, decorated and designed by local artists to reflect the creative freedom of the artist and visually engage the community and visitors at the Hill Country Galleria, located in Bee Cave Texas.

Many years ago, after an inspiring watercolor class by Johnnie Fields, a well-known Lakeway artist, a group of his students enthusiastically established The Lakeway Painters which continues to grow and thrive today. Each Wednesday, The Lakeway Painters’ club gets together to paint in a supportive environment and have a friendly critique of their members’ art. Bring your artwork and supplies and meet others who like to express creatively with watercolors, acrylics, collages and more. The Lakeway Painters meet every Wednesday from 9:45 am-12:15 pm. LTCL Great Decisions Seminar

Join us for another fantastic series of Great Decisions topics at the Lake Travis Community Library. This free, in-person program will take place in Lake Travis Community Library meeting room biweekly on Thursday nights at 7pm. No registration is required. Great Decisions is a nationwide, non-partisan program sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association intended to broaden public involvement in foreign affairs. It was launched over 50 years ago, and today tens of thousands of participants take part in discussion groups each year. Our library is proud to be hosting our sixth year of participation in the Great Decisions Program. Eight topics have been selected this year for discussion. The Foreign Policy Association provides a Great Decisions Briefing Book if participants choose to read articles in advance, and each program begins with a video presentation outlining the issues of the evening’s topic. Calling all Jedi Knights, Rebel heroes, and scoundrels of all stripes! May the Fourth be with you, and may you join Lakeway Parks & Recreation for a Star Wars movie event that’s out of this world! Gather your crew and head to City Park’s Lower Level (near the playscape) on May the 4th, 2024. Festivities kick off at 5:30 pm, with delicious food courtesy of CraigO’s Pizza available for purchase to fuel your galactic adventure. As the suns begin to set, get ready to blast off into a galaxy far, far away with a screening of Solo: A Star Wars Story (PG-13). The movie starts at 6:00 pm sharp, so be sure to bring your own blankets or lawn chairs to create your perfect spot under the stars. Feel free to dress up as your favorite Star Wars character and join the fun! A prize will be awarded for the Best Dressed costume, announced at 6:30 pm. And to make the evening even sweeter, there will be complimentary popcorn and fun Star Wars giveaways for everyone! So, don your rebel gear, grab your lightsabers (peacefully, of course!), and get ready for a night of Star Wars fun with Lakeway Parks & Recreation!

Fiesta time, Lakeway! Mark your calendars for the first-ever City of Lakeway Cinco de Mayo Party on May 5th, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Lakeway Activity Center. Get ready for a fun-filled afternoon celebrating Mexican culture with friends and family. There’s something for everyone! Enjoy delicious free food (for the first 100 attendees!), the vibrant sounds of a live Mariachi band, and witness the energy of authentic Mexican dancing. Whether you simply want to relax, savor the food, and soak in the music, or want to get your groove on and join the festivities, this event is for you. We’ll also have fun activities planned for the whole family, with exciting prizes to be won by participants young and old. And to beat the Texas heat, there will be an optional mocktail margarita machine offering refreshing beverages for all ages. Feel free to bring your own beverages (BYOB) as well! A Fox On the Fairway by the Lakeway Players takes audiences on a hilarious romp, which pulls the rug out from underneath the stuffy denizens of a private country club. Set amid the leafy greens of Quail Valley Country Club, the story unfolds on the day Quail Valley faces its oldest rival, nearby Crouching Squirrel Golf and Racquet Club, for the golf tournament of the decade. Filled with mistaken identities, slamming doors, and over-the-top romantic shenanigans, it’s a furiously paced comedy that recalls the Marx Brothers’ classics. A charmingly madcap adventure about love, life, and man’s eternal love affair with…golf. Tickets are available for purchase online with assigned table seating (10 seats per table). Bring your own food and drink, setups will be provided. Tickets go on sale at 8am on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 for LAC Members, and 8am on Monday, April 1, 2024 for Non-Members. Performance Dates are May 9, 10, and 11, 2024. Doors open at 6:30pm pm; curtain rises at 7:30pm.
