Keep Calm and Draw!

Did you know that drawing can be a great way to relax and de-stress? When you focus on your drawing, you are forced to slow down and be present in the moment. This can help to quiet your mind and calm your body. If you are ready to try it, join us for a relaxing adult craft class: Draw Yourself Calm on Thursday, September 21st at 10:30am Lake Travis Community Library where they will guide you through a meditative drawing class to help you relax. Supplies are provided!

If you would like to try it at home, here are many different ideas to draw yourself calm:

  • Draw simple shapes. This could be anything from circles and squares to spirals and waves. The simpler the shapes, the easier it will be to focus on your drawing and let go of your worries.
  • Draw nature. Studies have shown that spending time in nature can help to reduce stress and anxiety. So why not draw something from nature? This could be a tree, a flower, or even a cloud.
  • Draw mandalas. Mandalas are circular patterns that have been used for centuries for meditation and relaxation. There are many different ways to draw mandalas, so you can find one that works for you.
  • Draw your breath. This is a simple but effective way to connect with your breath and calm your mind. Simply draw a line on your paper as you inhale, and then another line as you exhale.
  • Draw whatever comes to mind. Don’t worry about making your drawing perfect. Just let your creativity flow and see what happens.

No matter how you choose to draw yourself calm, the important thing is to find a way that works for you and to make it a regular practice. The more you draw, the better you will become at it, and the more benefits you will reap. Here are some additional tips for drawing yourself calm:

  • Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed.
  • Set aside some time for yourself, even if it’s just 10 minutes.
  • Use art supplies that you enjoy.
  • Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
  • Focus on the process of drawing, not the outcome.
  • Take breaks when you need them.

Drawing can be a great way to relax and de-stress. So next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, pick up a pen and paper and start drawing. You might be surprised at how much it helps.
