Lakeway Paints Picture of Hill Country Arts District

    February 11, 2015 /

From the front page of February 2015 edition of the Community Impact Newspaper: Concept adds visual, performing arts venues While living in Flower Mound for the past 21 years, Lynda Dickey said she used her fine-arts background to develop an art history program for kindergarteners. She also reported on fine art and performing arts events for local newspapers. However, when the West Cypress Hills resident relocated from the Dallas suburb to Spicewood in September, she was surprised to find the region lacked an arts center—an area focused on museums, art galleries and theater. “What I do miss is an arts area,” Dickey said. “This area is so full of art lovers…

Lakeway Weighs Arts District for New Development

    February 6, 2015 /

From the Austin Business Journal: Lakeway is seeking to boost its arts appeal with an arts district currently being considered. The city of Lakeway is weighing whether or not to create an arts district in a planned development, reports the Austin American-Statesman. The district, which would be located on 130 acres set between Lohmans Crossing Road and Rolling Green Drive, could potentially be anchored around a theater that consultants have proposed as part of the development. “We’d like to see this land develop slowly and be well thought-out over time,” Chessie Zimmerman, Lakeway’s deputy city manager, told the Statesman. “We’re not to the point we’ve got to get 200,000 square feet of…

City of Lakeway to bring Arts District to Lake Travis?

    January 29, 2015 /

From Lake Travis Lifestyle: We all know the Lake Travis area is booming with growth. And while we may have to experience a few growing pains a long the way, the promise of a bright future outshines the frustrations. The last piece of undeveloped property (130 acres) located behind the new Oaks at Lakeway is being considered for a unique arts district that will give Lake Travis residents a cultural beacon of its own. What’s important for Lake Travis residents to know is the amount of care involved in this decision. The City of Lakeway has a rare opportunity to determine how the land will be used. And they fully understand it…

    City considers new Arts District

    January 28, 2015 /

From the Austin-American Statesman: “[City Manager Steve Jones] and I believe that if we can make arts a part of it, the commercial that follows will be organic businesses that support the arts instead of chains and name brands.” – Deputy City Manager Chessie Zimmerman The City of Lakeway is taking steps to create an arts district on 130 acres of land between Lohmans Crossing and Rolling Green Drive, near RM 620. The idea behind the arts district stemmed from the notion of putting a theater hall on a portion of the land, which consultants have told the city council would be a lucrative idea. The district would ideally be…
