Lakeway City Park 25th Anniversary Photo Contest
Earlier this year, Lakeway City Park celebrated its 25th anniversary. During the month-long event a photo contest was held by the Arts Committee to highlight some of the natural beauty within the community. Residents were encouraged to submit striking images of Lakeway’s geological and scenic features. Judges selected a first and second place winner from each category. Congratulations to retired Lakeway Mayor, Joe Bain, who took the Grand Prize with his stunning aerial photo titled “Hurst Creek”. Nosferatu and a Symphony of Horror!
Join us as we celebrate the spookiest time of year with Lake Travis High School Chamber Orchestra as they play by a live orchestral score to the classic 1922 silent film Nosferatu on Saturday, October 26 at 7pm at the Lakeway Activity Center. Art is Everywhere
We are finding art everywhere in Lakeway! Another beautiful sculpture has recently been generously gifted to the City of Lakeway. Join us Monday November 18th at 4:30pm when we celebrate the official unveiling of this monumental cast bronze sculpture “The Game” by acclaimed Californian artist Robert Holmes! Balcones Orchestra Concert
Lakeway welcomes the Balcones Community Orchestra again to our Lakeway Activity Center for another wonderful performance. In this free afternoon concert, the Orchestra will perform: Metamorphosis (2019) by Adrienne Inglis Mendelssohn: Sinfonia No. 1 in C-Major Haydn: Symphony No.84 in E-Flat Metamorphosis(2019) by Adrienne Inglis for flute, harp, and string orchestra, commissioned by Balcones Community Orchestra celebrates the life and work of Maria Sybilla Merian (1647-1717), pioneering entomologist, naturalist, and artist. Besides presenting the world première performance of Metamorphosis, Chaski flute/harp duo with flutist Adrienne Inglis and harpist Shana Norton will also perform the Texas première of Le barde muet by Bernard Andrés. National Arts in Education Week at LTISD
September 8-14 is National Arts in Education Week. Did you know that Lake Travis ISD serves almost 4,000 students in band, orchestra, choir, art, dance and theatre at the secondary level? Their K-5th grade students receive art and music at least once a week for 45 minutes. According the National Art Education Association, arts education is “an essential element of a complete and balanced education for all students.”
