How American Women Artists Expressed Their Suffragist Ideas
In keeping with the theme of Women’s History Month at the Lake Travis Community Library, join us for a virtual talk on March 28th at 1pm by Dr Pam Sachant PhD when she will focus on several American women artists working in the late 19th and early 20th centuries at the time of the Suffragist Movement in the US. While some were active participants in or supporters of women’s right to vote, others of these artists made no references to the cause in their art or recorded words. Credit is due to the tireless Texas suffragists like Minnie Fisher Cunningham (pictured) who never gave up the fight for women’s right to vote. Learn about Chinese Brush Painting
We invite you to join Lakeway resident Gail Threinen, as part of the “Women In Art” exhibit, as she demonstrates Chinese Brush Painting of the peony, the favorite flower of the only woman Empress of China, Wu Zetian (624-705) of the Tang Dynasty. Gail’s demonstration will take place on Saturday March 11th at 1:30pm at the Lake Travis Community Library (1938 Lohmans Crossing, Lakeway, TX). The Lakeway Arts District presents “Women in Art”, a very special art exhibition celebrating Women’s History Month from March 1-31st at the Lake Travis Community Library. This creative exhibit of paintings, drawings, digital AI art and mixed media sculptures by local women artists was inspired by women’s history, health, beauty, motherhood and equality. International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8th to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women. Recently the entire month of March has been designated Women’s History Month as a national celebration.
