Call for Photographers: Women in Photography Art Exhibit
UPDATE: DEADLINE NOW EXTENDED TO 1/29/24! The Lakeway Arts District is seeking submissions for the debut Women in Photography art exhibit, which will be on display from March 1-30, 2024 at the Lake Travis Community Library in celebration of Women’s History Month. This exhibit will feature the work of local photographers, showcasing their diverse perspectives and talents as well as compelling photographic portraits of women subjects. All are welcome to enter their creative photographic expressions as we celebrate women’s history, issues, and rights. We encourage photographers to explore themes of voting, equality, health, beauty, motherhood, and more, whether through abstract or realistic photographic representations. How American Women Artists Expressed Their Suffragist Ideas
In keeping with the theme of Women’s History Month at the Lake Travis Community Library, join us for a virtual talk on March 28th at 1pm by Dr Pam Sachant PhD when she will focus on several American women artists working in the late 19th and early 20th centuries at the time of the Suffragist Movement in the US. While some were active participants in or supporters of women’s right to vote, others of these artists made no references to the cause in their art or recorded words. Credit is due to the tireless Texas suffragists like Minnie Fisher Cunningham (pictured) who never gave up the fight for women’s right to vote. Learn about Chinese Brush Painting
We invite you to join Lakeway resident Gail Threinen, as part of the “Women In Art” exhibit, as she demonstrates Chinese Brush Painting of the peony, the favorite flower of the only woman Empress of China, Wu Zetian (624-705) of the Tang Dynasty. Gail’s demonstration will take place on Saturday March 11th at 1:30pm at the Lake Travis Community Library (1938 Lohmans Crossing, Lakeway, TX).
