Teen Read Week Art Exhibit at Lake Travis Library
In November and December the Lake Travis Community Library will display artwork from the annual Teen Read Week Art Contest, a competition where participants were invited to create an original piece of art inspired by their personal reading experiences. The exhibit will include the six award-winning entries and five honorable mentions. “We are absolutely amazed by the creativity and quality of the entries again this year. Kudos to all the young artists who participated.” – Judges Ben Kuenemann, Ann Neighbors, and Pam Sachant. Thanks to the Friends of the Library, cash prizes were awarded to the winners. Nutcracker Ballet kicks off Holiday Season in Lakeway
Don’t miss this free performance of the Nutcracker ballet by Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble on November 13th from 4-5pm at the Lakeway Activity Center. Austin Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble will present a classic holiday tale, The Nutcracker, that has been told through the most famous ballet in history for hundreds of years. It is through the re-imagining of this story that ballet companies across the nation have brought brilliant innovation and context that continues to inspire and excite new audiences every year. Be a Part of Women in Art
Calling all Women Artists in the Lake Travis area! International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8th to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women. Recently the entire month of March has been designated Women’s History Month as a national celebration. To honor “Women in Art” next March, the Lakeway Arts District will be showcasing many talented female artists in our area at a special month-long exhibit at the Lake Travis Community Library. Enchanting Animals at Lake Travis Library
During the month of October, local artist Georgia Hagan’s realistic animal portraits are on display at the Lake Travis Community Library (LTCL). Georgia’s love of art blossomed while taking lessons at a local Tulsa art museum in her teens. She attended the University of Tulsa, where she met her husband, Marvin. After many years, they moved to Lakeway together and that’s when she began to paint in earnest again. Georgia became a part of the Lakeway Painters in 2015 and quickly discovered that she enjoys creating animal portraits and looking for ways to make her paintings more lifelike. Meet the Silly Sisters of Nunsense
Don’t miss Nunsense: A Musical Comedy by Dan Goggin from November 3-5 at 7:30 pm at the Lakeway Activity Center and presented by the Lakeway Players. Nunsense begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials.
